Initial Visit and Consultation:

At the first visit you will complete forms, giving information about your current health condition as well as your past medical history and medications.

Your acupuncturist will review your medical history with you and ask questions covering many areas including your general health, daily life, sleep, diet, and exercise habits.

If applicable,  you may undergo muscle and range of motion testing to determine the area and type of injury or cause of any pain.

The acupuncturist will examine your tongue and palpate your pulse.

You will then have your first acupuncture treatment. Small, fine, sterile needles will be inserted.  In addition to acupuncture, you may also have infrared heat therapy, electoacupuncture (low voltage electrodes attached to the needles to provide additional stimulation),  indirect moxibustion (heated herb stick used to treat acupuncture points instead of needles), cupping, acupressure or massage.

When appropriate, the acupuncturist may also recommend a natural Chinese Herbal Formula, special exercises, or dietary modifications.

The first visit generally lasts about 1 ½ hours.

You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have at any time.

Followup Visits

The number and frequency of follow up visits will depend on the condition being treated and your response to treatment.  During follow up visits, the acupuncturist will discuss your progress with you and then administer treatment, customizing the point selection according to your individual needs.   Followup visits generally last 45 minutes to 1 hour.
